Eric (Hit and Run Victim) Huggins

Hello, my name is Shawn Huggins, and I'm raising funds for my son Eric Huggins who was involved in a motorcycle crash on 4 April 2022.

At approximately 6:10 pm, he was driving on Interstate 10 in Redlands, Ca and was struck by a female driver (1) who pushed Eric into another car (2). Car number 2 and Eric collided into the center divider (concrete) and came to rest 150 feet past the impact site. The female driver (1) who initially hit Eric stopped her vehicle and proceeded to yell, "I had my blinker on," and got back into her truck and left the scene (Hit and Run).

Eric remained conscious throughout the event to know that Cal Fire was three vehicles behind him, able to give the CHP officer a description of the suspect and provide a knife to the fire department so they could cut his clothes off.

Eric's injuries include a broken back in two places, pelvic bone broken in three places, left arm broken in two places, left wrist shattered, and his bladder had to be repaired due to trauma. Lots of road rash along with weight loss sliding down the pavement......

He was transported to Loma Linda hospital and received excellent treatment. However, the VA declined his claim because he has Kaiser Insurance through work. So, Kaiser is taking over his care by sending him to a Hospice Rehab Treatment Facility until he can use two extremities. Since doctors told him that there was no weight on his legs or back for 12 weeks, his injured arm is the 2nd extremity once the doctors rebuild it. So, his minimum stay is eight weeks.

Eric will not be able to return to work for 16 weeks; I'm trying to get him funds to pay bills and make his home as wheelchair accessible temporally. In addition, it will allow California SSDI (50%) and Kurieg/Dr. Pepper (30%) to begin entitlements. His gross income before taxes is 80% of his regular pay….

The money will be used for bills and retrofitting his house for wheelchair access.

Eric is an Army veteran, father, brother, uncle, and lucky to be alive.
