Eric Horsboll Memorial Fund
Donation protected
Eric Horsboll was literally and figuratively a fixture of downtown New Paltz for six decades. He touched the lives of innumerable friends and acquaintances of all ages and walks of life with his infectious personality and life force. His absence has created a void which is already evident -- as we no longer can see him sitting in the vicinity of P&Gs, Elting Library, Starbucks and the Bakery where he held court and loved to connect with passersby, even if it was to have screaming arguments with them about anything under the sun! Friends describe Eric as, "A storyteller who would make people roar with laughter – and his own laugh; Gathered friends easily as he was easy to be around; Befriended strangers who became friends for life; Turned people on to great music before anyone heard of the group; Chess player, games player, would bet on anything; Had a big heart, Showed kindness and warmth, Was generous to others in need even when he didn't have money to spare, and was always concerned about the welfare of others. There are so many stories, many salty and loud ones, about gambling and crazy get-rich-quick schemes, that go on and on.
This fund will help keep his spirit alive by celebrating the following things he was passionate about: The Vassar Chadwick Chess Club through scholarships for young chess players (the club is already planning a Memorial Tournament in his name); a memorial bench in front of P&Gs Restaurant where we can sit and remember him, and memorial recognition on the New Paltz campus. Donations are very much appreciated, and additionally reflections of a story of remembrance would be great. Reflections will be distributed electronically and at a memorial to be scheduled when we can gather together again, hopefully in the summer of fall.
If you choose to participate in this Fund in his memory, we want to share an expression Eric used and we have emulated for the past 40 years: "Thank you kindly."
Warmly,
Eric's family and Robin Cohen-La Valle
Reflections can be posted here or mailed to P.O. Box 1194, New Paltz, NY 12561
