Eric Sternberg-Medical Expenses
As many of you know, in 1994 my dad received a liver transplant. This liver gave him an amazing 26 extra years at life! I was able to grow up with a dad and I was also able to have two younger siblings that I wouldn’t have had without that selfless donor and the amazing doctors at UNMC.
Fast forward to 2020, and during a global pandemic, this liver has decided that it has given all that it is able to give. It is time for a new one. He was officially added to the waitlist in July. It has been extremely difficult with him being in and out of the hospital and not being able to be there with him. He has been in and out of the hospital since January. My dad is 48 years old and still has so many years ahead of him with my mom, us kids, and his young grandchildren.
It has been a struggle with being in and out of work and with the fear of COVID-19. As everyone knows, medical bills are a financial burden to anyone let alone the struggles during this pandemic. Every thought, prayer, or penny helps in this struggle.
I also want to use this platform to educate the importance of organ donation. Even growing up in school, I remember all of my papers, and presentations would always be on organ donation. An organ donor gave me a dad who I would not have remembered otherwise. An organ donor gave me two brothers that I would not have had. An organ donor gave me an extra 26 years full of memories that I would not have been able to even dream of. An organ donor gives life to people who need it and to people who ultimately have so much more life to live. We can not thank anyone enough for your thoughts and prayers. It means the world. ❤️
