Help Eric Kick Cancer in the Bum!

I’ve set up this GoFundMe account on behalf of my father who was recently diagnosed with Colon Cancer. This is a bit difficult to write, as it is truly heartbreaking to see someone you love going through something like this. My Dad is the kind of person that has a very hard time with something like this (asking people for financial support) but I recognize his need and I truly want him to get the best care possible. To start I want to tell you a little about my father, Eric Hummel.
My Dad has always been a charitable person with an inner desire and drive to help the people around him. Originally, he wanted to go to medical school and become a doctor, but due to being a young father with a family to care for he had to put those dreams on hold for quite some time. He started his career in nursing when I was a young child and I’ll never forget those late nights with him working at the hospital only to wake long before dawn so he could complete his paper route to bring in the money to survive that our family so crucially needed. Family members and friends would often call him up to swing by so he could check their blood pressure or offer his words of wisdom in regards to medical care. My grandfather (his father) died in his early 50’s as a consequence of colon cancer during that period of time. It took a toll on my Dad but he always continued forward making our childhood a time of happiness and hope. Eventually, burning the candle at both ends became too much and he switched careers for a number of years helping people obtain health and life insurance. What I always admired about him was his honesty and how he would never recommend anything but what he felt was the best option for his clients. Throughout those years my Dad worked hard but he never let go of that lingering desire to become a physician. After the last child left the nest my dad returned to school in his 50's, graduating with his bachelors degree (summa cum laude) in microbiology from Arizona State University. That same year he started medical school at Ross University School of Medicine. After completing his first 2 years of medical school and passing the USMLE step 1, everything seemed to be going just as he had always hoped!
He had sacrificed so much to accomplish his dreams to become the kind of doctor he wished his father would have had! It was during this time, when everything seemed to be going so beautifully, that a routine colonoscopy brought it all to a screeching halt.
On July 18th doctors discovered a 6 cm adenocarcinoma on his sigmoid colon. After having a CT scan, his doctors recommended explorative surgery and a partial resection (removal) of his colon. Everything looked very positive and all of us thought this would be a simple and quick process. Unfortunately, during the recent surgery doctors found multiple tumors throughout his abdominal cavity.
I love my Dad so much and he has sacrificed so much for not only his children, but a desire to help and better the world around him. I believe with all of my heart that he can overcome this diagnosis and ultimately become an incredible physician! However, the many bills that accompany such a diagnosis can add up so quickly! Please help me to get my father the best possible care that I know he deserves. All proceeds from this GoFundMe will be used towards his medical care.
