Goldberg Twins B'nai Mitzvah Project
Donation protected
As most of you know, Charlie and Gabbie have a developmentally disabled uncle, Eric Turk, who lives in a group home in Brooklyn. For Charlie and Gabbie Goldberg's B'nai Mitzvah project they've decided on a hands on project that involves our family. It will involve some fundraisers in the upcoming months, however this project is quite ambitious and we needed to start early.
Specifically, the raised funds will go towards building and upkeep of an amazing and spectacular fish tank for the residents to enjoy and making several creative improvements to the school.
This project will also involve many trips to the group home by the twins in order to design and implement these improvements. Charlie wil decide the location of the fish tank, the type of tank, the type of fish, and will be responsible for setting it up. Gabbie will be responsible for deciding what improvements to make to the school. , purchasing the supplies and doing much of the actual work. Additionally, they will work with administrators of the home.
LETTER FROM THE TWINS:
In honor of our Grandmother’s birthday please consider donating (in lieu of a gift) to our Mitzvah Project involving improvements for our Uncle Eric’s group home.
The donated funds will go towards building and upkeep of an amazing and spectacular fish tank for the residents. We will also be adding make some creative and imaginative touches to their school.
As we approach our Beni Mitzvah, which is next October, we reflected on many ideas for a hands on project that would be extra meaningful for our family.
Thanks for your help in accomplishing this goal.
These additions will bring joy and happiness for years to come."

Additionally, ALVIN TURK has served as Vice President of the Benevelent society, which was the parent group at Willowbrook during the 70's- This group first advocated for vast improvements in staffing and living conditions of Willowbrook, a vast institution that housed 6,000 developmentally disabled in poor conditions. Additionally, they were instrumental in closing Willowbrook after a publicized news report and expose'. by Geraldo Rivera. This was followed by a victorious court case. Today, the residents of Willowbrook are living in smaller group homes versus large institutions due to the work of this group. Alvin currently sits on the Consumer Advisory Board which monitors living conditions of those Willowbrook residents living in NYS. He is also on the board of NYSARC of Parent advocates.
