Surviving & Thriving Stroke Recovery 4-Erika

The Farrington family needs our help.
On May 3,2020 Erika suffered a massive stroke. She coded for 50 minutes and was put on a ventilator prior to finding out she had suffered a massive stroke. As a result, Erika was in the ICCU at R.I. Hospital for 18 days in critical condition. Erika required emergency brain surgery, without it the doctors said she would not survive due to the amount of swelling in her brain. Erika again coded when they attempted to take her off of the ventilator. She remained on the ventilator for an additional week before they were able to successfully take her off. Erika was then moved to the stroke unit and remained in a state of limited consciousness and slowly began regaining her consciousness and responding to commands. On June 15,2020 Erika transitioned to Spaulding Rehab in Charlestown to begin her long road of recovery. Although Erika is doing better than originally thought she has a long road ahead of her. Erika's original diagnosis was that she would never walk or talk again. Well, she has proved them wrong. She says 4 words consistently but is unable to move her right side. Erika is a fighter and her comeback is going to be one that has never been told.
Erika is a single mom to her 11 year old daughter, Ryenn. Since Erika's stroke her Mom, Donna Farrington, has since become Guardian to both Erika and Ryenn. Donna has not been able to work since that day, since she has been taking care of Erika's medical needs as much as possible and taking care of Ryenn.
Donna grew up in Mansfield, married & moved to South Attleboro where she raised her 3 children for 20 years. Erika & Donna moved to Taunton where they have been for 17 years. Erika is an Attleboro High school graduate who participated in the culinary arts program, and was an avid athlete playing soccer, volleyball, basketball & softball. This family also had the unimaginable happen in 2013 when their brother/ son Jonathon passed in a car accident in 2013.
It would be great if we could help this family out. So, Mom/ Donna does not have to worry about the near future. So, she can stay home to care for Ryenn, prepare the home so it can accomodate and be accessible for Erika, and be available for Erika and her needs when Erika can safely return home. In addition, this fundraiser will help offset any costs regarding medical equipment or medical expenses that are not covered by Erika's insurance.
Thank you for all your support for this family!
