Erika Nelson Gibson

My dear friend Erika is fighting for her life. We are raising money to help with her extensive medical bills. Erika just started a new job, and unfortunately, her insurance hasn’t kicked in yet.

Erika has been in the hospital since Tuesday, May 16 for a possible gallbladder removal.

At 6 pm on Sunday, May 21, she started vomiting massive amounts of blood. After they got her rushed to critical care for surgery, she was intubated, and a stent was placed in her esophagus to hold it open.  They discovered that at the bottom of her esophagus, a blood vessel had burst which resulted in massive blood loss that required 14 units of blood plus more plasma and platelets.  That was finally controlled by 2 AM. 

Parents Kent and Joan, and siblings Kacey and Lindsay flew in from Illinois and Missouri and arrived by 9am Monday.

She has been getting many IV meds for pain & sedation, and antibiotics.  She was started on dialysis since the kidneys were so injured from the rapid blood loss.  Her whole body has been so yellow, bloated, & very swollen.  Tuesday afternoon we met with the hepatologist about the damage to her liver.  It's all so complicated, and overwhelming, considering that just a week ago we thought it was going to be a pretty simple removal of the gallbladder. She may need a liver transplant.

She is stable, but very critical.  We do know that she is a precious child of God, and he knows her number of days.  We pray for a miracle and for perfect peace, knowing that He is sovereign & in control.  We give Him honor, thanks & praise each day!
