I'm Erik and I'm female to male transgender. I'm a 19 year old freelance artist, costume maker, and science nerd. I am planning on getting top surgery within the next 3 to 4 months with Dr.Garramone. The whole procedure will cost around $9200 plus I will have to stay in Fort Lauderdale for around 8 days so I need to be able to afford food and a hotel during that time. I am currently working full time in a warehouse for Amazon (formerly working 2 jobs over 60hrs a week), graveyard shift in order to save up and I was full time in college full time as well until I stopped in order to save more money and move out of my abusive household. I often skip meals in order to save money and my home situation was not the best. My parents are as unsupportive and emotionally abusive as they can be without fully disowning me or kicking me out. I have to pay for all of my medical bills and college entirely on my own including this surgery. The surgeon does not take insurance other than to possibly reimburse some of the cost afterwards. I have moved out on my own since making this so saving has gone a lot slower.
Getting this surgery done will finally allow me to feel comfortable in my own body. Binding daily especially for many hours leaves me in near constant pain and prevents me from being able to freely run, swim, exercise, and generally live life fully instead of in constant discomfort and anxiety about whether or not my chest is flat enough. I cannot leave the house without it on and have missed out on many opportunities because of this. I really hope to have it done in the next few months as I've been looking forward to this for years and I already have chronic pain from skin, joint, and back issues. Due to my scoliosis specifically, my binder tends to bruise my ribs on one side and make it harder than necessary to breathe. Not only will my health situation be much much better, but so will my financial one. I don’t have to have to keep living on one meal a day just to save up for this.
I am trying to raise as much as humanly possible on my own and I hate even having to make one of these, but any little bit helps a ton. I am currently at almost $9000 and anything else would be an amazing help!
Having to navigate all of this on my own is kind of scary if I’m being honest here and I greatly appreciate all of the support I’ve been given lately by friends and strangers.
