Hello, friends and fam -
Thank you all so much for your continued care, calls, and support. I have an unfortunate update on Erin.
Tl;dr: she was diagnosed with stage four metastatic cancer last fall (‘22), having a broken vertebra that has caused quite a lot of pain and immobility. This mutation or strain is fast-growing, and she is exploring treatment options, most of which are not covered by insurance or require travel. There is still hope we can find the right treatment and have some longevity.
Longer story: she has had a spinal decompression surgery that gave some relief, but wasn’t very long-lasting. She has a growing tumor in her spine (several, actually), and it has not been healing how we’d hoped. She also had radiation, which also relieved the pain for some time. She has been on her first line of treatment (chemo), and had a new port placed, but after a recent scan, we have learned that everything has grown and there are new tumors.
The next step her oncologist recommends is a biopsy to better understand the mutation or variant, and therefore how we can target treatment.
One of the treatment options is a care center in Mexico, which could be $30,000.
We are still very hopeful we can find the right thing, and support Erin to have the best quality of life, and support the girls. We are so appreciative of all of your love and support, and adding this for anyone who wants or is able to contribute, and also as a way to keep folks updated.
