Erin Tenney Horn's Fight Against Leukemia
Donation protected
On Tuesday, April 7th, Erin went in for follow up testing for prior lab results showing almost a complete non-existence of white blood cells. She had been having easy bruising, tingling in her toes, mouth sores and other unusual symptoms for the last 3 months, so she was sent to the hematologist to rule out any form of cancer. That same day she underwent a painful bone marrow biopsy and wasn’t allowed to have anyone with her due to social distancing and strict hospital restrictions. That same day she received a phone call from the doctor diagnosing her with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia, she said goodbye to her husband and 4 children (ages 7, 6, 3, & 11 1/2 months), and was hospitalized immediately. This type of cancer is very aggressive at the beginning and doctors have told Erin she could have died very soon from an internal brain hemorrhage. She has also been told that if she can successfully make it past the first week, that her odds of remission are 80-90%. She will be in the hospital for about a month to keep an eye on her bleeding as internal bleeding that won’t stop is what this kind of leukemia causes. She is also at risk for contracting simple infections and fevers that could take her life as well. The doctors are telling Erin that even when she makes it past the first month, her cancer journey is not over. She will undergo weekly chemo treatments (2 to 3 days a week) for an entire year after she has been cleared from the hospital.
Erin and Mike and their family are deeply moved and touched by all of the prayers and reaching out. They are currently working on responding to each of you and said that they want to express their love to all, that they feel all of the support and love, and that they cannot thank you enough.
