Our girl Erin was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma in July 1990 at the age of five. After undergoing chemotherapy as well as other experimental treatments she was blessed to beat the cancer. However, because of all the treatments Erin faces extreme fatigue and severe pain daily. Over the past 25 years Erin has undergone 40+ surgeries, one of which was an above the knee amputation at the age of 24. Erin’s leg is a very unique situation because what is left is a combination of donor bone, rods and cement. Because of this, over the years, Erin’s muscles have retracted from the donor bone causing extreme pain and making it impossible for her to wear her prosthetic. Years of having to use crutches daily is taxing the rest of her body, causing constant pain and making it so she is unable to have a job. Correcting this problem requires an extensive and very specialized surgery with a team of top surgeons in Minneapolis, where she has been getting treatment since the initial cancer. Erin is a single mom with an amazing son to support. She needs the surgery as soon as possible so she can live her life to the fullest, enjoy an active life with her son, and pursue her passion for motivational speaking so she may continue to inspire others with her amazing story of triumph despite inceasing challenges. Erin is such an inspiration and her case is so rare that all 3 surgeons on her medical team have decided to do the crucial surgery pro-bono, however the hospital will not accept her insurance to cover the remainder of the expenses. Expenses incurred for this surgery will be extremely large and she will not be able to schedule the procedure until she can prove she is able to pay for the hospital stay, anesthesia, etc. There is no way to know exactly what the costs will be but the minimum hospital stay following the surgery will be at least 2 weeks, plus anesthesia, travel expenses and more. Erin has had countless appointments to help address and plan for these things, each time traveling either to Billings or Minnesota. The after-insurance cost of all her medical procedures over the years are something most of us couldn’t begin to fathom and yet other than one benefit when she was five, Erin and her parents have shouldered this entire burden by themselves. Erin is the type that gives and gives of herself without ever asking for or expecting anything in return. Her bright spirit breathes life into everyone she comes across and now is a time when we can give back and help get her “back on her feet” so she can live the life she was meant to live! A medical account has been set up locally and local fundraisers are in effect as well to do the very most possible to help this amazing woman. Time is crucial because the bone in her leg is now dangerously close to tearing through the skin, creating an emergent situation. Our goal is to help defray as many of the costs as possible so that Erin can put all her energies into healing without the stress of insurmountable medical debt. All monies donated will go to exactly that. This brief summary barely scratches the surface of what an amazing journey Erin has been on or the grace with which she has faced it. For anyone wanting to know more details, Erin is always open and willing to share her story and life experience. She welcomes your questions and can be reached at [email redacted] Thank you for considering a donation. Even $5 makes a difference. If not a financial contribution Erin and her family welcome your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you in advance for your love and support.
