It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Erin Maas Scanlon on June 1, 2022. Erin was born on December 2nd, 1981 in Virginia Beach, VA. She grew up in a loving household with her parents and 3 brothers. Erin was a beach kid through and through. Spending countless days in the ocean and bay; as well as Club Brittany Pool. Erin was a standout soccer player and swimmer. She loved sports of all kinds & displayed a competitive streak in everything she did. Erin was extremely hardworking. While attending First Colonial High School & Old Dominion University, she spent many years working at Tautogs Oceanfront Restaurant with some of her best friends.
A few years after college Erin moved to Northern Virginia. She met her husband, Dan Scanlon, and they married on July 24, 2010. Erin and Dan were friends to all, and always down for a good time. Erin became a mother to three amazing children, Samantha (10), Drew (9) and Dylan (5). Erin was a loving, fun, and supportive mother and wife. She taught middle school English at The Nokesville School and had hopes for advancing in her career as an educator. She spent her evenings and weekends enjoying her children’s sporting and musical activities. Erin was always up for hosting a party, bringing a dip, making homemade meatballs, showering those she loved with wine, and she could craft anything and everything!
Erin recently celebrated her 40th birthday. She battled her cancer diagnosis with the strong grit and wit that characterized her overall zest for life. She was predeceased by her father John B. Maas III. Erin is survived by her loving husband and three children, her mother, Pattie, brother J.B. and wife Kate & children, Charlotte, Johnny & Lee, her brother Daniel and wife Jenna & children Cailey, Hannah & Reagan, her brother Michael, her mother-in-law, Marie, sister-in-law, Colleen and husband Nick & children, Georgia & Pete, brother-in-law Dr. James Scanlon and wife Moira & children Jack, James & Jude, and her brother-in-law Mike and wife Krysta & children David & Christopher. She was both family and a friend to all of her siblings, in-laws, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Erin will be missed terribly by all that knew and loved her. Most of all, Erin loved her husband and her kids. They will carry her love, strength and spirit with them every day. Erin joins her dad and father-in-law in heaven. She is now an angel watching over her children. May she rest in ever-loving peace and look down on her husband and her kids with pride and admiration.

Erin's ferocious battle has become more difficult. While she has never given up, it is now time for her care to move to hospice. This fund and your generous support and prayers are deeply appreciated by the family. The fund will be a great assistance with upcoming expenses and relieve that source of stress.
Last year, our dear friend Erin Scanlon was diagnosed with breast cancer. Erin and the Scanlon family took the news in stride and decided to battle the disease head-on. Erin underwent a series of treatments and was pronounced cancer free in late 2021. Recently the family received the devastating news that the cancer had returned and spread, so Erin is continuing her courageous battle against this horrible disease and Dan and their 3 kids are doing an amazing job of providing the love and support she needs.

Many of the Scanlon’s friends have been reaching out and asking what they can do to help. Some of us got together to come up with ideas on how we could show our love and support. We decided that once Erin feels up to it, wouldn’t it be great to give the family a vacation where they can hopefully step away, relax and enjoy time with each other. The funds could also be used to alleviate some of the financial worries. Please continue to keep Erin and the Scanlon family in your thoughts and prayers.
