Help Erin Get Pregnancy Medication

Donation protected
I am the oldest of 3 kids and I’m so very excited that my sister Erin is about to become a new mom at the end of September! I started this Go Fund Me campaign for her because she could really use a hand paying for medical bills during her very high risk pregnancy.  Our family isn’t very good at asking for help.  So I’m doing it for her.

A few years ago we almost lost Erin.  You see... we both have a blood disorder called Factor V Leiden and are at a higher risk for blood clots and embolisms than the average joe. Well, unfortunately, it happened to Erin (or Leedle as I call her). Four years ago she suffered a pulmonary embolism and I won’t get into too many details but it was pretty scary. For all of us. My poor mom found her just after it happened (thank goodness she was staying at our moms house that night) and I can’t even imagine how she got through that day.  Well, I can imagine now that I’m a mom and it breaks my heart that she had to see one of her children revived and rushed to two different hospitals for care.  But Erin is a tough cookie and recovered slowly and surely but will now be on blood thinners and have her blood tested regularly for the rest of her life.

When she decided to start a family with her partner Matt she knew that it would be risky and had to switch from an oral blood thinner (known for causing birth defects) to a daily injection which is MUCH safer for her pregnancy.  When I had my son Hunter I was also required to inject blood thinners for 6 weeks postpartum to avoid haemorrhaging and risks of clotting but Erin has had to do this every..single..day since the beginning of 2018 until after her baby boy is born.  Yup, its a boy! I'm having a nephew!

These injections may not sound like a big deal but they are.  It really, really sucks. The needles hurt. They leave bruises and hard lumps under your skin. You run out of room to poke yourself. You have to do it at the same time every day for maximum effectiveness. I would sit in my bathroom and cry every time I had to inject my thigh or belly and I only had to do it 43 times.

Erin is SO close to meeting her baby boy and travels 2.5 hours each way every two weeks to see specialists all day at Mt. Sanai Hospital in Toronto to ensure that everything is going well with the pregnancy. And it is.. yay!!! BUT... here's where my campaign comes in...her medical benefits provider has just cut her from receiving full coverage for her injections.  And they aren’t cheap.  We are talking over $600 out of pocket for less than a couple of weeks worth of needles.  And she needs these injections for her own health and the health of our newest unborn family member.

Erin deserves a break.  She is one of the kindest souls I know and works so hard on her feet all day and works overtime to make up time lost from medical appointments.  She is stressed out about money and even though her doctors and family recommend taking this remaining time off work to rest and prepare for the baby, she can’t due to financial worries about paying for the medicine she needs to keep both her baby and herself alive.

My hope is that I can raise enough funds to cover some of her injections, even if only a few weeks worth, so she can reduce her stress and enjoy the last couple of months of her pregnancy.  Being on her feet, stressing out and working too hard makes a high risk pregnancy even higher risk.  I wish I could pay for all of her meds and erase her worries but I can’t.  I’m hoping this story might inspire you to help in some way.  Even the smallest amount helps.  Forgo that Timmy's or Starbucks coffee for one day this week and donate what you can. Please.

Erin is an amazing woman, sister, daughter, cousin and friend and will make such a wonderful mom.  I want to make sure that she gets to the finish line safely!  All donations will go directly to paying for Erins injections until she no longer is at high risk after her son is born.

If you knew Erin, you would totally agree that she could use a hand.  Thank you so much for your support and I welcome any questions you may have about this campaign.
