My daughter’s senior year (Class of 2021) already abnormal due to the coronavirus epidemic, seem to be minimal after being diagnosed with a rare tumor called High grade Glioma . The tumor is located in the center of the brain and is hard to remove. It started at the end of January, she was on the Daniel Fast with her sister and began to have headaches. We took her to multiple doctor visits and migraines were the diagnosis. The headaches progressively had gotten worst and vomiting and nausea persisted. She was unable to keep food down for 3 to 4 weeks. We took her to the emergency room and was given additional migraine medicine and nausea medicine which only pacified the situation. We went back to her primary care physician and she recommended we meet with a neurologist because of the continued vomiting and nausea. The MRI was done and as soon as the results came back, he recommended us to a neurosurgeon. The neurosurgeon said that time is of the essence, she has a brain tumor and surgery needs to occur with the hopes of removing it all but only 50% was removed. One week later , she is having brain surgery April 9, 2021. My daughter celebrated her 18th birthday in ICU April 15. This tumor is rare and chemo and radiation has to be done with hopes of shrinking it and brain surgery to follow. She has a 3.7 gpa graduating from Booker T Washington for the Performance and Visual Arts and was accepted to SMU in their business program with a concentration in Accounting with aspirations to be a CPA. Eryn is a fighter. This journey has just begun.
