Support Nurse Terrie and her ALS Fight
My mother, and local school nurse to many in the Concord and Oak Grove area, was diagnosed with ALS this past February. ALS is terminal, has no treatment, and does not go into remission. In these short few months she has experienced a rapid decline in motor/muscle function. Currently she is unable to use her hands or arms in any capacity. Her speech has become extremely slurred and her mobility, using her legs and feet, is substantially limited and declining.
Please help us financially provide for the needed equipment that Terrie will need during her battle with ALS. Due to the restrictions of the COVID virus our availability to speak with social workers, follow up with ALS wellness visits, and process disability paperwork has been slowed. At this point we’re still unsure what equipment she will need and what may be covered by any insurance or other means.
I’m her son, Richard, and right now I’m trying to secure the things that we believe we’ll need in the near future. That includes a power wheelchair with a seat that can be repositioned. Equipment to allow her to communicate since she is losing the ability to speak. An accessible van that has a wheelchair lift in order to make transportation easier. If we have to self fund these items, I could easily see them exceeding fifty thousand dollars. Hopefully most things we can find used and save on the costs.
I know times are financially hard for some right now, so I completely understand if you can’t make a donation. But please consider sharing this campaign or speaking with your employer to see if they may be able provide any assistance. Please pray for my mother and add her to your church prayer lists. Pray for my wife, Leslie, without her I’d be completely lost. She has taken on such a large responsibility; one that most people would run from. Pray for my son, Forrest. This is a very hard thing to process for an eleven year old. He’s an only child, and he and his grandmother would spend the summers together. Please pray for me. No words can express the pain and sorrow of watching a loved one suffer from this terrible disease.
Thank you all..!
