Escobar Chimal Family tragedy

Yesterday morning the RV home of Hector and Monica Escobar-Chimal caught on fire while their 2 children were sleeping. It was a sudden and unexpected passing of 8 year old Naomi Quetzalli, leaving the family heartbroken. Their son Lotar Jaciel survived but was flown to Harborview Medical Center and is currently in the ICU unit. As if this wasn’t enough they also lost their RV home.

Naomi was your typical 8 year old little girl! She was in second grade and attended Vista Elementary in Kennewick. She loved dressing up in her princess dresses every Sunday to go to church, and she was without a doubt, daddy’s princess.

Lotar turned 14 just yesterday (the day of the fire, Nov. 12). He is a shy boy who mostly keeps to himself, has a big love for ninja turtles, and is in 7th grade at Chinook Middle School in Kennewick. Lotar celebrated his birthday a day early with his youth group at church.

The parents were both at work when this horrible tragedy happened. Dad is a circus performer and was out of state. Mom had left to work that morning, the kids were sleeping, but she kissed them goodbye and told them she loved them, as she does every day.

We are not 100% sure what caused the RV to catch on fire, but it seems it may have been due to a space heater. Both kids were sleeping when the fire started; as soon as neighbors realized what was happening, they called 911 and tried to help, but unfortunately, the doors were locked. Neighbors broke a window and pulled Lotar out just as emergency responders arrived. Lotar Informed them his little sister was still inside. Naomi was retrieved from the RV, but not much could be done as she had inhaled a lot of smoke. Little Naomi did not make it despite their efforts.

Lotar has a long road to recovery as he suffered severe burns to the upper half of his body. At the moment we don’t know the severity of the damage caused to his lungs and eyes but we have faith that he will have a full recovery. The family is being told that it will be several weeks before Lotar returns home.

Losing their little girl and their home, and having their son in ICU is more than any family should have to handle. We are asking our friends and our community to come together and help take some of the financial burden off their shoulders. The Escobar Chimal family will have to plan a funeral and also be with lotar in Seattle until he is fully recovered, and on top of that, they have to worry about finding a new home as they have to start over completely as not much could be saved from the RV. 

$50,000 is a lot of money, but ANY amount we raise will be of most help! Funeral expenses are the family’s priority, followed by expenses incurred while their son is in Seattle. If any remaining balance, it will be used towards a new home for the family.

With the help of the children's aunt and myself (friend/co-worker of both Monica and Hector), we will be making the funeral arrangements for Naomi and paying fromfrom the GoFundMe funds. I have opened up a savings account and all the funds collected here will be sent there. After taking care of funeral costs, I will provide the family with a statement showing all the deposits and give them the remaining funds.

Esta mañana la casa rodante de Héctor y Mónica Escobar-Chimal se incendió mientras sus 2 hijos dormían. Fue el fallecimiento repentino e inesperado de Naomi Quetzalli, de 8 años, que dejó a la familia desconsolada. Su hijo Lotar Jaciel sobrevivió pero fue trasladado en helicoptero al Harborview Medical Center en Seattle y actualmente se encuentra en la unidad de cuidados intensivos. Como si esto no fuera suficiente, también perdieron su casa.

¡Naomi era la típica niña de 8 años! Estaba en segundo grado y asistía a Vista Elementary en Kennewick. Le encantaba vestirse con sus vestidos de princesa todos los domingos para ir a la iglesia, y sin duda era la princesa de papá.

Lotar cumplió 14 años ayer (el día del incendio 12 de noviembre) y está en séptimo grado en la escuela secundaria Chinook en Kennewick. Él es un adolescente tímido, con un gran gusto por las tortugas ninja! pudo celebrar su cumpleaños un día antes con su grupo de jóvenes en la iglesia.

Los padres estaban en el trabajo cuando ocurrió esta horrible tragedia. Papá es artista de circo y estaba fuera del estado. Mamá se había ido a trabajar esa mañana, los niños estaban durmiendo pero les dio un beso de despedida y les dijo que los amaba, como lo solía hacer todos los días.

A partir de ahora, no estamos 100% seguros de qué causó que su casa se incendiara, pero parece que puede deberse a un calentador de espacio. Ambos niños estaban durmiendo cuando comenzó el incendio y tan pronto como los vecinos se dieron cuenta de lo que estaba pasando, llamaron al 911 e intentaron ayudar, pero las puertas estaban cerradas. Se rompió una ventana y pudieron sacar a Lotar, justo cuando llegaban los servicios de emergencia. Lotar les informó que su hermana pequeña todavía estaba adentro. Naomi se recuperó de la casa rodante, pero desafortunadamente no se pudo hacer mucho ya que había inhalado mucho humo. La pequeña Naomi no lo logró a pesar de los esfuerzos de todos.

lotar tiene un largo camino hacia la recuperación ya que sufrió quemaduras graves en la mitad superior de su cuerpo. Por el momento no sabemos la gravedad del daño causado en sus pulmones y ojos, pero tenemos fe en que se recuperará por completo. Se le dice a la familia que pasarán varias semanas antes de que Lotar regrese a casa.

Perder a su niña y su hogar, y tener a su hijo en la UCI es más de lo que cualquier familia debería tener que soportar. Estamos pidiendo a nuestros amigos y a nuestra comunidad que se unan y ayuden a quitarles parte de la carga financiera de sus hombros. La familia Escobar Chimal tendrá que planear un funeral y también estar con Lotar en Seattle hasta que se recupere por completo, y encima tienen que preocuparse por encontrar un nuevo hogar ya que tendrán que empezar desde zero debido a que no se pudo salvar mucho después del incendio.
