On December 3, 2015 at 11 am, we gave our hugs and waved goodbye as the nurse escorted the best guy we know towards the operating room to prepare for open heart surgery.
After surviving 9 hours of heart surgery, James suffered a bilateral brain stroke followed by 6 weeks in the intensive care unit at Maimonides Hospital and another 4 weeks in an acute physical rehab center for stroke victims. Currently he's in a subacute rehabilitation center for additional physical therapy for atleast another 4-6 weeks before we can finally welcome him home to his apartment in Bayridge, Brooklyn.
The permanent effects of the stroke that Jim suffered during surgery are still being assessed by his medical team, however it was made clear to our family that the damage done will prevent him from returning to work and living independently for an unknown extended period of time.
Our family is asking for your help. We are reaching out for some assistance to cover Jim's past due rent and utility bills accumulated over the last few months so he can focus on recovery. He has been working vigorously to reach new physical and cognitive goals each day. Jim was diagnosed with congestive heart failure back in July of 2015, since then he has been unable to work due to his illness. After surviving this mere fatal surgery, and the brain stroke, he is now facing the possibility of eviction from his apartment of 18 years. He remains extremely positive and is a true inspiration to us. We are beyond thankful he is still here fighting to build back his strength and ultimately his independence.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated and will go a long way. Thank you so much for your compassion during our families hardship. We are forever greatful for your kindness
Sincerely,
Danielle, Denenne, Donald & Stefani
