Esophageal Cancer--Choosing the Path of Resonance

There are no easy or convenient answers when it comes to life and death decisions. It takes courage and presence to navigate this journey into the unknown, listening to our deepest inner wisdom, balancing our inner voices with those of the expert world summoned on our behalf.
In a routine imaging scan in early November, 2021, Kevin learned that his Barrett’s esophagus had morphed into an adenocarcinoma located at the bottom of his esophagus. Given the aggressive nature of this tumor, the Boulder Rocky Mountain Cancer Institute quickly amassed an expert oncological team to consult with him. The plan was laid out and would start immediately — 5-6 weeks daily radiation with a concurrent weekly dose of chemo. To ensure nothing was left to chance, a surgery would follow to remove his esophagus and connect his stomach with his throat. This mind-blowing surgery would also require cutting his Vagus nerve – the only nerve connecting the brain to the abdomen or “gut instinct”.
To his credit, Kevin went into every consultation with an open curiosity. He simultaneously conducted his own research into alternative therapies, ones that didn’t involve compromising his immune structure, his stem cell production, and his overall energetic strength necessary to prevail. A friend of ours happens to be writing a book about treating cancer with a Ketogenic approach - essentially starving the cancer of its requisite survival diet of sugar in all forms. A steady ingestion of pancreatic enzymes was also recommended to help devour the tumor. Kevin met with an intuitive healer who pointed him to a naturopathic, integrative practice in Boulder. As it turns out, his radiologist was already working with this holistic medical team involving other cancer patients. Additionally, Kevin was called to enlist the support of a world-renown Chinese Herbalist, also located here in Boulder.
With this new team coalescing, a new plan was birthed. Kevin has started to undergo intensive mistletoe treatments that will be followed by high doses of vitamin C. He’s taking numerous supplements including a tea that tastes as if it were right out of Harry Potter’s magical world of mystery. He will continue to monitor the growth, or shrinkage, of his tumor through the cooperative offices of RMCC. With each step, we will pause and evaluate. It’s a dance between worlds - between inner Truth and outer knowledge, between acceptance of what is and surrender of control, ultimately between life and death.
As hard as it is for us to do, we are both sharing Kevin’s situation with you and asking for support. If we were taking a traditional western path, a fair amount of our medical costs would be covered after our deductibles. Unfortunately, the path we are on, while it resonates with our desires to befriend and learn from this cancer the lessons we have called in, the insurance community does not support this type of approach. So, we are humbly reaching out to ask for whatever you can afford and are called to contribute. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for all contributions to Kevin’s healing - monetary or otherwise!
