esperanza's BIPOC Artist Sanctuary in Portland
3 x THOUSAND x 3
300 people, each give $1000, by June 3rd
so esperanza spalding can start a BIPOC Artist Sanctuary in Portland, OR
hi. I'm esperanza spalding: Portland born musician, composer, and professor.
My intention and prayer with building this sanctuary is to support the creation of restorative art, in a truly restorative environment.
After making Oregon my pandemic ride-out place last year, I realized that:
A) I wanted to put down roots in my hometown, among the beautiful and blooming BIPOC arts community in Portland.
B) I wanted my home-making practice to be dedicated to supporting the healing of people's connection to land, spirit, and each other.
The BIPOC artist Sanctuary I am building in North Portland, will be comprised of:
an 1/2 acre organic garden, two garden-studios for short-term artist residency, BIPOC eco-poetics reading room, tea-bar and recording studio
This Sanctuary will serve as a long term artist residency and studio for the development, creation, and archive of my own interdisciplinary restoration-themed music projects.
The environment most conducive to my wellness and creative productivity, is one where other frontline cultural-workers are supported and immersed in their own artistic devotions. Hence, my intention for this Sanctuary to serve a very real need among my community for BIPOC artist-led space to gather, share ideas, and practice regenerative gardening.
ALL this is great, and very possible, - but, simply put, l need the outstanding $300k to buy the property first. :)
I'm asking 300 generous souls, to give $1000 dollars each, by June 3rd, so I can manifest this vision.
Feel free to give more than $1000, if you can. For those of you who are able to give $1000 or more, I'll be offering a private Zoom performance for y'all
If you can't give $1000, that is perfectly beautiful. Your support will be most impactful by spreading the word. (by June 3rd!). Given the large amount I'm trying to raise in a short time, spreading the word about this campaign will be more impactful than a smaller donation.
During these times where everybody's been hit by the pandemic, funding is spread thinner than usual amongst countless families, communities, creators, organizations, venues and works in dire need. This is why I'm specifically asking individuals with a cache of expendable income to financially seed this vision.
