Save the Esquimalt Legion

Donation protected
Ever been to the Esquimalt Legion, maybe to an event, a dance, or perhaps a meat draw?  Have you ever enjoyed their hospitality?  Has the Esquimalt Legion ever helped you?  Do you know someone they have helped?  Now the Esquimalt Legion needs you!

In 2016, the Esquimalt Legion donated over $50,000 to their community, and $16,000 in student bursaries.

Now they need your support.

In 2008, the Esquimalt Legion entered an agreement to develop their existing building.  The plan was, they would get a new legion plus 10 housing units for veterans and seniors from the deal.

The real estate developers would get 142 rental units that they could sell, to cover the costs of the project, and give them a profit.

So what actually happened?  The Legion spent $1.5 Million on the project, while the developers took their money.  The developers did not invest any of their own funds, even though they were supposed to fund the project.  Now the Esquimalt Legion has a $10,000 per month mortgage payment against their property, no new legion, and no veterans/seniors housing.

They have a buyer for the property that wants to build the original project, so that they will get their Legion and the veterans and seniors housing units.

But first they need to keep their property.  The original “developers” are trying to take it from them, using the courts.

They need your help to cover the legal costs, and to keep the doors open and the lights on while they fight these developers through the courts.

The law is on the Legion's side, but first they have to prove it.  And the fact that they are in the right won’t matter if they lose their property to the bank before they get a decision in their favour.

Please, can you help?

They do so much to help the community, now they are looking for the community's support in their time of need.

If everyone who has ever enjoyed the Esquimalt Legion's hospitality donated the price of a latte, it would be more than enough to get them through the current situation.

Thank you for anything you can do!  Every little bit helps.
