Establish a Masjid for the Muhājirīn in Gambia

For those of you who may not know me, I am your brother Abul 'Abbās Zakariyya (founder of Carriers of the Qurān), a British revert currently living in the Gambia as a Muhājir and a student in Imām Al-Bukhāry College, the faculty of Hadīth.

After making Hijra to The Gambia in 2023, it soon became apparent that the country - despite it's beauty - needs A LOT of work.

From that which raised much concern is the large amount of Muhājirīn (migrants) here, living and working yet we are yet to find somewhere concrete, successfully bringing them together and strengthening the ranks.

In addition, and perhaps even more concerning is the fact that there are so many Muslims who have been here for up to 20 years - or more - yet are completely blocked and hindered from being able to study their religion within the country because they either don't understand the local languages such as Mandinka or Wollof, or they don't understand Arabic to be able to benefit from those who teach in Arabic...

This is what initially inspired the idea for "Masjid ul-Muhājirīn”, following the example of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and then the advice of our teachers here in The Gambia, a Masjid that CLINGS to the Sunnah, CALLS to the Sunnah and DEFENDS the Sunnah and bring the people together upon none other than the authentic Sunnah of our beloved Prophet ﷺ.

If we study the Sīrah of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ we learn that the first thing that he did when he made Hijra to Al-Madinah was establish a Masjid which served not only as a place of worship, but also a hub for educating the Muslims and creating unity amongst them.

Shaykh ‘Abdur Razzāq Al-Badr حفظه الله said: “this proves the obligation of the Masjid being the first priority of the Muslim, and when he resides in a place that should be at the forefront of his mind.” [Sharh ul-Urjūzatul Mī’iyyah]

This, along with many other reasons, ignited the idea to establish a masjid, a school and a community built upon the ancient Salafi foundation of “At-Tasfiyyah wat-Tarbiyyah” (purifying and educating the people) in a rapidly developing Islamic environment.

So after the necessary meetings and tireless planning we have concluded that we need an approximate of £100,000 to start and complete the project from scratch and after the aid of Allāh, we also need YOUR aid and assistance to bring this project into fruition.

The sought amount will be used to;

Phase 1: Complete the purchase of the land

Phase 2: Establish the initial building of the Masjid

Phase 3: Complete the necessary additions such as the car-park and the upstairs library etc.

لمن قد لا يعرفني منكم، أنا أخوكم أبو العباس زكريا (مؤسس معهد حملة القرآن)، بريطاني معانق الإسلام يعيش حاليًا في غامبيا مهاجرًا وطالبًا في كلية الإمام البخاري للحديث.

بعد أن هاجرت إلى غامبيا في عام ٢٠٢٣، سرعان ما اتضح أن البلاد - رغم جمالها - تحتاج إلى الكثير من العمل.

ومما أثار كثيرا من القلق هو العدد الكبير من المهاجرين هنا، يعيشون ويعملون، ولكننا لم نجد بعد مكانًا ملموسًا يجمعهم بنجاح ويقوي الصفوف.

إضافة إلى ذلك، وربما الأكثر إثارة للقلق، هو حقيقة أن هناك كثيرا من المسلمين يعيشون هنا منذ ما يصل إلى ٢٠ عامًا - أو أكثر - ومع ذلك محرومون تمامًا من القدرة على دراسة دينهم داخل البلاد لأنهم إما لا يفهمون اللغات المحلية مثل الماندينكا أو الولوف، أو لا يفهمون اللغة العربية ليتمكنوا من الاستفادة من المشايخ وطلابهم الذين يدرسون باللغة العربية...

وهذا هو ما ألهمني في البداية فكرة "مسجد المهاجرين" اقتداءً برسول الله ﷺ ثم نصيحة مشايخنا هنا في غامبيا.

إذا درسنا سيرة رسول الله ﷺ رأينا أن أول ما فعله بعدما هاجر إلى المدينة هو إنشاء مسجد، ليس مكانًا للعبادة فحسب، بل مركزًا لتعليم المسلمين أيضًا وإيجاد الوحدة بينهم.

قال الشيخ عبد الرزاق البدر حفظه الله: "وهذا يدل على أن الواجب أن يكون المسجد هو أول اهتمامات المسلم، وإذا سكن في منطقة كان في مقدمة ما ينبغي أن يعنى به". [شرح الأرجوزات المائية]

هذا مع عدة أسباب أخرى أشعل فكرة إنشاء مسجد ومدرسة ومجتمع مبني على الأساس السلفي العتيق "التصفية والتربية" في بيئة إسلامية سريعة التطور.

لذا، وبعد الاجتماعات اللازمة والتخطيط الدؤوب، توصلنا إلى أننا بحاجة إلى ما يقرب من £100,000 لبدء وإكمال المشروع من الصفر، وبعد عون الله، نحتاج أيضًا إلى مساعدتكم وعونكم ليخرج هذا المشروع بثماره.

المرحلة الأولى: استكمال شراء الأرض -

المرحلة الثانية: إنشاء المبنى الأولي للمسجد-

-المرحلة الثالثة: استكمال الإضافات الضرورية مثل موقف السيارات والمكتبة في الطابق العلوي وما إلى ذلك.
