Establish Blackbutt Benarkin Timber Museum
Donation protected
Our long time vision is slowly but surely coming to fruition:
A Blackbutt / Benarkin Timber Museum. We have been working at it for some time now and:
We have the land - next to the Nukku Siding & Roy Emerson Precinct
We have council approval
We’ve bought an old store shed . . . . . . Now! We need to relocate it from Jimna
Within our Timber Exhibition Hall we aim to:
- Present history of the early timber days in Blackbutt and Benarkin with our unique
- Diorama and inter-active displays
- Preserve and orally relay stories of the folks who worked the timber
- Honour and celebrate our present day champion woodchoppers, axemen and women
- Encourage school age children to take part in planned holiday activities
- Establish a fresh new tourism experience to our already popular Roy Emerson Museum precinct
- Promote the Exhibition Hall by means of our extensive network of agencies
- Increase the usage of the Exhibition Hall “meeting room” for crafters and sale of local made items
- Assist the community and visitors research their family history utilising our extensive database and local information
THE HISTORY
Many families of yesteryear came to this district for work in the timber industry, some for the
forestry, some for the logging and some for the milling of the timber.
We believe their stories should finally be told and in doing so, show the utmost respect and gratitude to those working families of the tough times past.
THE PRESENT
Timber remains, to this day, a most important economic contributor to our area.
Wood chopping is a much loved sport of the Blackbutt locals and presently, we have amazing people who are both World and Australian Champions; None other than our very own local
brothers Mitch and Jack Argent and Anne Paterson, Mitch's partner.
We are committed to building an exhibition to showcase our woodcutting communities wins and achievements within the Timber Museum.
