ESTABLISH COMMUNITY LIBRARY FOR FORT CHISWELL

Donation protected
The Friends of the Fort Chiswell Library have formed to establish a community library in the Fort Chiswell area. Currently, to get to a library, you must travel to other localities (Rural Retreat or Wytheville) within the county. Transportation isn't always available. Libraries offer many services besides books. They offer internet services to the community members who may not have it, but need it to apply for jobs. It also provides services and internet to children who need it for schoolwork or to attend online classes, especially now during the Covid pandemic.  The building pictured above is the building we want to purchase for the library.  It is an old First Community Bank building located across the street from the Fort Chiswell High School and Fort Chiswell Middle School.  This location will allow students to walk across the street after school and have access to complete homework, conduct research for projects and much more. The bank has the building for sale. We have placed our contract on the building. Due to Covid, we have not been able to physically fundraise as much as hoped. The bank is wanting to see that the community really wants, needs and has an interest in having its own library accessible and located closely in the community. They are giving us 30 days to prove the Community wants it. Our deadline is October 18, 2020.  We MUST show some monetary support before then. We currently have the 501C3 Nonprofit Status paperwork in the lawyer's office now.  Again, Covid has slowed that process down as well. That will complete the next step in getting this underway and meet the other requirements for the bank. This building is in the perfect location for the Fort Chiswell Area.

Let's show what a Community can do! Let's make the Fort Chiswell Library a reality! Let's show the bank we really need and want this in our area!  Any amount is greatly appreciated and will make a huge difference in getting this library for everyone.  Because in a community,  just giving what you have to offer makes you a part of it.
