Establishing an online environmental magazine about Syria

Donation protected
Greetings,

We are a group of journalists, writers, researchers, designers, and friends who are exploring the possibility of creating an online magazine focused on environmental issues in Syria.

After many years of challenges, including bombings, missile use, and a ongoing war, we believe there is a significant opportunity to address environmental concerns in Syria.

The country has 90% of the population below the poverty line, which is a significant increase from the 10% figure recorded before 2011.

The cost of living has increased by more than 800%, and price inflation has been rising between 50% and 100% annually.

The Syrian economy has experienced significant challenges, with a reported loss of approximately $226 billion over the first five years (2011-2016), which is equivalent to four times the GDP in 2010. This figure continues to rise.

Additionally, Syria's oil production has decreased by about 90%, from 380,000 barrels per day in 2010 to around 30,000 in 2020.

The agricultural sector has been severely impacted, leading to a significant decrease in the production of wheat and cotton, which are crucial crops for the Syrian economy.

Furthermore, Syria has experienced a substantial loss of forests and tree cover, amounting to approximately 20% of its total forest area. The cities of Syria face challenges related to air pollution and access to potable water.

The psychological impact of the conflict and the chemical weapons used by the regime is also deeply concerning.

As writers and journalists interested in environmental issues, we are exploring the creation of a website and a printed magazine. Our primary goals are to raise environmental awareness among Syrians and to encourage the authorities to prioritize environmental issues that affect the global community.

We would greatly appreciate your support in this endeavor. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated in ensuring that the site is launched with a plan to sustain the team and the magazine.
