Establishing Keira's Place Complex Care Home

My name is Clint Endacott and I am the CEO of Keira's Place Complex Care Home Society. We are a new society registered in British Columbia.
In 2012, my daughter Keira contracted viral encephalitis. This illness left her with a severe brain injury, which resulted in her being physically dependent in all aspects of her life: feeding, toileting, dressing, mobility, and communication. As you can imagine, it was a huge transition for our family, learning how to navigate all the medical and rehab services to benefit her recovery and care. Looking after all of this has proven very demanding and stressful at times and though we love our daughter and want to look after her as long as we are able, we need times of respite.
We have found it challenging to find caregivers that would be willing to take Keira into their home for even as little as one weekend a month and so much of our respite has been having someone come into our home to care for her. This means our family needs to go somewhere else for a much-needed break. But what if there was a place where families can leave their children with complex care needs, a place that provides a home environment but can also look after their child's medical, physical, and psychological needs.
Keira's Place Complex Care Home Society's purpose is to provide long-term and short-term (respite) care to children, teens, and adults, so that families can be fully involved in the care of their children (even after they become adults). We are a place that will love your children, care for their needs, and value your voice and experience in working with your child.
Short Term Goal
We are in the development phase. Initially, we seek $10,000 to help with some setup costs: website design, funding exploration and avenues, advertising costs, and other overhead costs, associated with setting up an office space.
Long Term Goal
After the initial development phase and by January 2023, we will be looking for property in Kamloops to either build or convert a house into a wheelchair accessible space with proper supports, such as lifts, medical beds, and bathroom accessibility. We will also be seeking donations to help fund the operations of the house with qualified staff for the first year.
