Eternal Forest Documentary
Donation protected
The ‘Eternal Forest’ art documentary rethinks and transforms a community’s relationship with it’s forests, through the voices of people living in Goís, Arganil and Lousã, the areas which suffered unprecedented fires in 2017.
A disaster caused by decades of unsustainable forestry practices, widespread eucalyptus monoculture, the breakdown of communities and human desertification.
These 12 interviews were taken in May 2018, the ‘Eternal Forest’ 40 min short cut of the documentary was created. It is being screened around Portugal this Summer.
The project has been supported by EarthSkyLab, Raizvanguarda art residency and personal funds.
There is urgency to capture the voice of those who are rarely given opportunity to express their opinions directly without filters.
We have a vision of an emergence of empowered individuals and communities all around Portugal, coming together to find solutions to these complex problems.
The film and the project hope to raising awareness about the environmental situation, and the economic and social consequences associated with it.
By connecting communities and creating sense of shared ownership of the land and responsibility which extends into the future we will find solutions to the challenges facing forests in Portugal.
Eternal Forest opens a conversation about our current relationship with the forest, thinking about it affects our perception of time and deep cycles, how it impacts us in the future and how we can change it.

Other ways you can help us
We are also working hard on finding contacts in Universities, Art Organisations and Schools to reach as varied audience as possible. If you know any organisation who would like to organise a screening, please let us know!
2. Encouraged by the good reception of the first edit of the film we decided we would like to conduct additional interviews to make a longer series, in the form of shorter episodes, which can be then freely shared on youtube, vimeo, facebook and other channels.
To make new edit of the material we already have, film interviews and integrate them in the new film, we need another €2,200. This is an extremely low budget for a long film, but instead of waiting for larger organisational funding in the light of the urgency of the issue we would like to complete this stage and release the film.
We keep our team small - just two people Evgenia Emets and Fernando Antunes Amaral. Evgenia is the Artistic Director and Producer. Fernando is a Visual Anthropologist, who is in charge of Filming, Editing, Sound Editing and Subtitles.
