Ethan Bowers’ Eagle Scout Project
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Ethan Bowers, and I am a Life Scout with Troop 268 - New Market, Maryland. I have been a part of scouting since 2nd grade, and as part of my journey, I am currently working on becoming an Eagle Scout. For my Eagle Scout project, I am working with Search and Rescue Assist, Inc. to raise $3,500 to help rebuild an observation platform at their training grounds. The current platform is roughly 14 years old, and unfortunately, most of the upper structure is rotting away. My goal is to tear down the old deck and rebuild it with fresh materials to provide a more stable and safer viewing station for rescue workers and trainers who observe search and rescue training conducted on-site. In addition to replacing the current deck, I plan to add a pulley mechanism that will allow the S.A.R.A teams to put a tarp up over the deck to create shade when the weather gets too hot since there is no natural shade in the area. My goal is to begin work on the observation platform by the third week of May 2022.
Search and Rescue Assist, Inc's was found in 2001 with a goal to help provide resources and funds to all types of K-9 search and rescue personnel to help get their dogs certified for federal work. S.A.R.A trains in Urban and Forest environments while searching for lost people or trying to recover their remains. Some of the emergency calls the K-9 units that train at S.A.R.A have responded to are: gas explosions in Baltimore and Silver Springs; the condo collapse in Miami, Florida; the aftermath from the tornadoes that ripped through Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky.
