Ethan's Medical Expense Fund

Hello!

I’m Zaina Rodriguez. I am here on GoFundMe on behalf of my God son, Ethan, and his mother, Denise. Ethan is 5 years old and he lives with his mother in Emporia, Kansas.

Ethan was officially diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on December 17, 2018, after being at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City for 3 days.  He was taken to the Emergency Room in Emporia on Friday, December 14th after his mother witnessed him stagger while he walked and then collapse. At the ER they noticed his Hemoglobin was extremely low, they began a blood transfusion and sent him to Children’s Mercy. 

With this diagnosis of AML, Ethan will need to stay at Children’s Mercy for at least the next month. He will receive Chemotherapy to treat his AML. He will continue to receive Chemotherapy once a week for the next 6 months. If Chemotherapy does not work, we will have to begin the search for a bone marrow match so that Ethan can receive a Bone Marrow Transplant. Ethan’s Doctor explained to Denise that the survival rate of AML is around 60%, this is lower than other survival rates of other forms of leukemia, which are around 86%.

Denise is a single mother and will have to take time off from work to be with Ethan at the hospital during this time. The funds from this campaign will go toward medical bills and travel expenses like gas and food. They will also go towards her everyday bills, so she can keep her home.  

Through all of the iv's, the spinal tap and other medical pokes and prods that he has had to endure so far, Ethan has been happy and smiley! He has not had the desire to eat much but he has eaten his favorite snack, vanilla yogurt!
