Ethan Faria's Journey
Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and all those who supported Ethan over the past year and a half, we have updated this site (Oct 2016) to say that Ethan is doing well - he is so happy and full of life. Thank you! We are excited about the book that was written about him called Marley and Maverick find Ethan's Magic legs www.ethansmagicbook.com and the upcoming Book Launch event that all those who care about Ethan are invited to attend and come meet him!!
Ethan is doing so well. It’s been exactly a year since he left Sick Kids Hospital! You were all so generous and supportive through your kind words and donations when Ethan took ill and you followed his four month story at Sick Kids until he went home. Fast forward to today –
If you click on the Updates tab, you can see the video and pictures! He loves to smile and has the most beautiful spirit!
We are thrilled to announce that there has been a book written about Ethan which will raise money for Ethan’s fund and for Sick Kids Hospital. There has also been a song written for him called Superhero which will be sung at the book launch. You are invited to RSVP at [email redacted] for the book launch which takes place this November 16th in downtown Toronto. It’s a free event where you can meet the guest of honour, Ethan Faria, and his parents Rachel and Humberto. This is a celebration of life, live music, and literary art in support of Ethan’s Magic Book Campaign.
You can order multiple books, and if you don’t want a book you are welcome to also make a donation on the same page www.ethansmagicbook.com.
Updates:
Rachel takes Ethan to Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital four days a week. The professional staff at Bloorview have been working with Ethan since January, and Ethan has made huge strides.
Ethan was first fitted for Prosthetics in April. He took to them quickly; he reacted so well. He has physio 4 mornings a week where he does lots of exercises and learns to walk on his prosthetics along with a walker.
Ethan loves to bounce around and climb. He throws the pillows from the couch on to the carpet to give himself a soft-landing on the floor! Then he climbs all over them. His mobility is amazing despite his challenges!
Ethan has music class at Bloorview twice a week along with speech therapy. Check out his musical talent on the video! He loves animals, and he knows all the animal sounds. He also loves listening to stories and turning the pages in books.
His favourite food right now is French fries. He has become an expert at using his one hand with limited fingers, and as of a few months ago he learned to hold a spoon!
We hope you have enjoyed this update. Please join Ethan, Rachel and Humberto at the book launch on November 16th and enjoy an evening of wine, food, and music. They are so grateful for this opportunity to meet those who have supported them and thank them in person. And remember to order a book online to support Ethan and Sick Kids Hospital.

Here is a bit of the original intro in the summer of 2015:.
On July 24th, Ethan Faria, the 14 month old son of Rachel and Humberto Faria, was admitted to the ICU at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto after a brief fever and mild cough. Rachel was told to "prepare for the worst". No one had any idea that this would become a life threatening situation. In a matter of hours, what seemed like something minor turned into a parent’s worst nightmare. Fortunately, Ethan survived the first crucial six hours
Ethan contracted a rare bacterium, Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib), which rapidly leads to skin necrosis and disseminated intravascular coagulation. Within 12 hours Ethan's life changed forever. He lost part of both legs, his right hand, and part of his left.
