Ethiopia needs open data experts
Donation protected
My name is Solomon Mekonnen and I work with the Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. Part of my role is to promote and grow Ethiopia's open data community.
I am passionate about raising the capability of Ethiopia's IT sector and supporting open government initiatives in my country. I am also passionate about growing our capability to support the open source project which drives many of the open data portals worldwide, CKAN .
Our open data group has recently received a small grant to establish itself as a charitable organisation and we have also received our first major donation which will fund the recruitment of a full time open data developer for 12 months.
With your support for this fund raising campaign we will reach our target and then be able to recruit a second open data developer, fully funded for one year.
CKAN is currently supported worldwide by a very small core team of developers, yet it is used by many major Governments and institutions. Our small team will grow to become a major contributor to this project and our aim is to establish Ethiopia as a location where specialist support can be sought.
We have received strong applications for our current job advertisement and would like to offer a second applicant the opportunity to contribute to the CKAN project, funded by your donations here.
Please consider making a contribution to our very worthwhile campaign.
Full Disclaimer: We have received personal funding from Steven De Costa, who is a member of the CKAN Association Steering Group . We have also received his commitment to provide a further $5000 USD via Link Digital once we have completed the setup of our NGO in Ethiopia. Funds from this campaign will be withdrawn personally by Steven De Costa and transferred to our NGO as soon as we have our group established as a legal entity in Ethiopia.
