East Tennessee Fires "GoFundMe" Campaign Is Still Active!
Please read the heartwarming information below.
There is a reason Tennessee is called the Volunteer State. The fires in East Tennessee have brought out the best in people and their heartfelt generosity. On November 30, 2016 The Pool established a GoFundMe campaign to raise money. Partnering with us to get the word out is the Tennessee City Managers Association (TCMA), the Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS), the Tennessee Association of Chief of Police (TACP) and the Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association (TPFFA).
Our focus is on employees of our insureds in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville who lost their homes in the wildfires. Two weeks later it has been determined there are fourteen of these families who lost their homes and along with everything in them. In that same time period, a large number of contributions from across Tennessee have been made. We also received donations from people and organizations in California, Colorado, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Florida. By December 14, 2016, the total funds received exceeded $45,000 with additional commitments and donations still coming in (funds via GoFundMe or checks payable to The Pool).
Halie Gallik and I recently visited the fire ravaged area. We met people who lost their homes and some who were doing all they could to help others. We also saw the some of the devastation first hand. The photos of the area do not do justice to the extent of damage. One gentleman we talked to said that he lost everything but a few clothes. He said the generosity of people has been overwhelming and each day he receives a new blessing. His story is heartbreaking, but his attitude is inspiring.
With the holidays here, let us please remember those less fortunate than us and give whatever financial support possible. No amount is to too small!
You can make a check payable to 'The Pool', with the notation ‘East TN Fires’ in the memo line, or you may donate via the GoFundMe account. (https://www.gofundme.com/etn-wildfire-cityemployee-hms-lost)
