European World Cup Campaign
I am excited to announce that I have been selected to race with the National Team for the first two rounds of the XCO World Cup in May, in my first year as an Elite racer! In order to get to these races, I am reaching out to my local cycling community for some financial assistant during these challenging times. As an athlete, navigating the coronavirus pandemic has been a big challenge. With the absence of racing, sponsorship and funding opportunities have been canceled or postponed for the 2021 race season. This has left athletes hoping to pursue international racing, with a large bill to pay if they want to compete. Unfortunately, pursuing the highest level of cycling while attending a full-time University means there is limited time for a part-time job. Although I do carry a part-time job, it is not enough to cover the costs of traveling to Europe multiple times a year to race. The total cost to attend just the first two world cups will be in the range of $3000-$3500. Throughout the season, I will be traveling to Europe two or three more times, with a total cost closer to $10,000 for just the World Cups/ World Championships. This does not include a budget for North American races, equipment, parts, or race fees. The total cost to fund a full race season without any sponsors is in the ballpark of $20,000. Unfortunately, this number exceeds what my parents and I can afford.
The financial support I am reaching out for will specifically go to funding my race season in Europe. Through part-time jobs, and support from my parents, I will cover the costs for North American races, equipment, parts, and race fees, as I have in the past.
Attending these world cups as a first-year in the Elite Men's category is a huge opportunity for me as a racer, and a big step in pursuing professional cycling. One day I hope to be in a position where I can help support racers like myself, who have the opportunity to race in Europe but lack the funds to do so. I know that I am close to making a career out of cycling, this is just the final push. It is never easy to ask for help, but I don't think I would be where I am today without asking for help along the way.
To the shredders community, I look forward to one day down the road, when I am in the position to help a local racer reach their potential in this sport! For now, I must keep fighting. Any assistance you can afford me will go a long way. Thank you for your support!
Sincerely, Ty
