Evan's fight with Stage 4 Metastatic Colon Cancer

Donation protected
Please join us in helping Evan and Taylor during Evan’s battle with Colorectal Cancer. Evan has been battling a resistant and stubborn cancer for the last 3.5 years, and just 3 months before his wedding, Evan was told his cancer had returned and he would have to remain on chemotherapy for the rest of his life. At the age of 32, Evan was told that his cancer was incurable and was officially diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Colon Cancer. Evan and Taylor were told that they needed to enjoy and make the most out of his life.

Evan has been so strong during the entire cancer journey. Always having the best attitude and outlook on his diagnosis and having the will to fight. Using his humor to make sure everyone around him was always laughing. Never letting anyone beyond closed doors know the amount of pain he was in. Even when in pain, always offering a helping hand to his friends and family. But even despite his unwavering strength, it has taken a huge toll on Evan and Taylor. Due to the short time between each cancer diagnosis, Evan has been unable to work since 2020.

As well as trying to process the news for herself, Taylor has been by Evan’s side, every step of the way. She has never missed an appointment and has cared for Evan, all while juggling a full-time job, and being a full-time student. Truly being a rock for their family.

For those who know Taylor and Evan, know they are the first people to offer their help and never ask for anything in return. So, this time, we are asking that you help us, help them. This extra support from your contributions will relieve some of the weight from their shoulders and allow them to keep a positive outlook and continue fighting.

Evan has been out of work for 3 years due to the life altering surgeries and chemotherapy. The ever increasing cost of living has created a huge financial stress on their family. All of the donations will be going towards recouping past medical expenses and cover future medications, treatments, and doctors visits that won’t be fully covered through Medicare and Medicaid. The funds will also be put towards the expenses that experimental trials and potentially visiting out of network facilities such as Mayo Clinic for treatment will bring.

Evan’s Story:

In December of 2019, Evan was diagnosed with colorectal cancer after a colonoscopy at the age of 29. Evan was sent to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and after meeting with doctors, it was decided that the best course of action was to remove the tumor in surgery, and then have Evan go through 6 months of chemotherapy and radiation. He finished radiation on July 23rd,2020 and could see the finish line. He went in for routine checkups and everything seemed to be in the clear. Since they found the cancer early, Evan and Taylor were told there was only a 4% chance of the cancer returning.

But just a few months later, in February of 2021, it was found that the cancer had returned and was worse than before. Evan and Taylor decided to meet with another oncologist and surgeons at the Cancer Care Clinic to get a second opinion. The oncologist and surgeons recommended that Evan go through another surgery to have the cancer removed, but this time, he would be left with a permanent colostomy bag that forced Evan to change his day-to-day life, including giving up one of his favorite hobbies, rock climbing, due to the risk of injury.

On April 15th, 2021, Evan underwent the surgery to remove the cancer and have the colostomy bag placed. The surgery appeared to be successful, and the doctors felt it wouldn’t be beneficial for Evan to follow his surgery with chemotherapy since it didn’t work as well as they hoped the last time.

It again, appeared that everything was in the clear, and in September of 2021, Evan proposed to his girlfriend of 3 years, Taylor, who had been by his side every step of his journey. They began planning their wedding, and their future together. They planned their wedding for August 19th, 2023, making sure there was time in case any other health concerns came up for Evan.

In December of 2021, Evan noticed a spot near his colostomy, after having it biopsied, it was found to be cancer, again. Evan underwent surgery to have it removed it and again, doctors felt chemotherapy would not be beneficial for him.

Just 4 months later, in April of 2022, it was found that Evan had a lesion on his liver that was precancerous, they removed it through surgery. The very same month, doctors found nodules in Evan’s lungs. The nodules were too small to be removed through surgery, and once again, Evan was started on Chemotherapy. Evan went in for Chemotherapy infusions twice a month, for 5 months before graduating to maintenance chemo pills in October of 2022.

The doctors had planned for Evan to come back every 3 months so they could keep an eye on the nodules. Just 3 months later, doctors could see the lung nodules were already beginning to grow back, and he began complaining of pain in his pelvis. In April of 2023, an MRI found that another colon cancer tumor had grown back, he went to his routine 3-month CT scan, and it was also found that nodules were continuing to grow, and a new nodule had popped up, involving his lymph nodes.

On May 15th, just three months before Evan and Taylor’s wedding, doctors made the decision for Evan to be placed back on Chemotherapy, but this time, he wouldn’t be graduating. He was told he would have to remain on chemotherapy for the rest of his life, the goal, to shrink the nodules and stabilize the colon cancer. At the age of 32, Evan was told his cancer is incurable and was officially diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Colon Cancer.
