Evelyn & Shorty Watkins Medical Assistance

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to view this page. This GoFundMe was created with the hope of assisting Evelyn and Shorty Watkins – our parents – with medical and living expenses after a particularly trying year.

Our dad’s health has been on a steady decline over the past few years with numerous ER visits and unanticipated, extended hospitalizations. Our mom still works – and many of you may recognize her from her years at the old K-Mart, or her current job at Weis – but our dad’s failing health has forced her to miss work frequently or work late hours so that she can get our dad to his doctor’s appointments or the emergency room.

Our dad has always been a hard worker, always ready and willing to lend a hand when he can. Never one to sit still, he was always busy in the garage or the yard when he wasn’t at his full-time job; but now he struggles even to do the very basic daily necessities that we all take for granted. Despite this, on those rare days when his health improves and he is feeling better, he still does his best to help however he can rather than sit around resting.

Our mom has a heart of gold and is the very pillar that holds our family together. She gives and gives to everyone, and even when it seems impossible for her to give more, she always finds a way. Always putting on a brave face, most people wouldn’t know that she, too, struggles with major health concerns that she does her best to hide, even from her own family at times.

Neither of them knows about this GoFundMe; we – their children and grandchildren – have taken it upon ourselves to reach out on their behalf. They are givers, not takers, and never want to bother others – let alone strangers – with their problems. They never ask for anything, ever, and will often do without if it means that they can do for others.

Our goal is simply to try and raise some money to assist financially. We want to try and ease some of the stress and hardship that has come along with these medical expenses. Especially given the amount of work our mom has had to miss so that our dad can receive the care he needs to recover and live comfortably. Any little bit that can be offered helps.
