In 2018, community members of the local skatepark formed a crew called 'Susanville Memorial Skate Crew' to raise community awareness and band together to petition for a new skatepark. Initially, we were planning for a skatepark expansion directly next to the existing skatepark.
As we formed our non-profit, we realized the skatepark rebuild would be the first of several projects. Thus we decided our mission is to develop and support youth through shared interests and activities, providing a healthy environment that allows for learning about Jesus while making a permanent positive change in the community.
Our vision is to raise about 2 million dollars to rebuild the skatepark at Memorial Park to be a map of Susanville. Key features such as Lassen Community college, Susanville Airport, Eagle Lake, High Desert and CCC prisons will be in geographical locations as skateable objects.
As an established ministry non-profit, we have been active doing community events and projects (such as painting the skatepark), attending city hall meetings and filming a #shopLocal #supportLocal film series to highlight local stores.
What we are doing for the community: Getting youth involved in community projects (painting the skatepark, film, graffiti control) and promoting local businesses while raising funds for a community skatepark rebuild.
How Funds will be Used:
- Community Projects: purchasing material, permits, etc
- Events: Skatecompetitions, community events
- Organization expenses: permits, licenses, monthly expidentures
- $35,000 to hire American Ramp Company to engineer construction-ready documents
- $2,000,000 to create Susanville Skatepark as a skateable monumental map of Susanville.
