Emma's 2024 Everest Trek: Help End Duchenne
Tax deductible
Hello all! I am fortunate enough to have the experience of a life time and Trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal this autumn. I am going with an organization called Hope for Gus. Hope for Gus is an organization that brings awareness and fundraises for individuals who live with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DMD affects every aspect of someones life, it is a progressive muscle wasting disease which in turn breaks down other functions of the body. There is no cure at this time, but with fundraising efforts there is more opportunity for research of this disease. I am joining Everest to end Duchenne's and trekking for those who can't.
Most individuals who are diagnosed with DMD are under the age of 5. Dystrophin is a key muscle protein that is missing in boys with DMD, due to a defective gene. Most are confined to wheelchairs by the young age of 12. Loss of muscle mass, brittle bones, inflammation, decreased heart function and weakness of the diaphragm are just some of the effects DMD has on the body. DMD is 100% fatal to all that have it. There is no set effective treatment at this time, but with fundraising efforts it helps treatment and drug trials get underway. There is Hope for a cure.
After reaching Everest Base Camp (EBC), we will read the names of hundreds of boys who are fighting DMD. Their names will be held on a prayer flag, In Nepalese culture it is believed that as these flags blow in the wind their prayers are swept into the wind with them.
If you can please donate to this powerful cause. 100% if the proceeds will go into fundraising and providing care for those who have Duchenne's. Thank you all for your support!!! HOPE FOR A CURE!!!
