Everesting Knox Mountain for Charity

Summary: I will climb the height of Mount Everest (8848m) on Knox Mountain on October 5th by doing continuous laps of the apex trail to raise money for Elevation Outdoors, a charity whose mission is to connect underprivileged youth with outdoor sports.

Full Story: COVID-19 has reminded me of a tremendous life lesson: time spent outdoors pursuing hobbies and chasing goals is so important mentally, physically, and spiritually. With lockdown and our travel restrictions, I have spent the summer exploring some of the most breathtaking sights that BC has to offer and I have pushed my body almost to its limit. Such a summer has buffered me against COVID-related anxiety and depression. In fact, it has been the opposite - I have thrived and never felt more fulfilled. Furthermore, I have never been in such good physical shape.

So that got me thinking...... how could I use my experiences this summer and leverage my fitness level to help youth to find a passion for fitness and the outdoors.....

I kept hearing about this thing called Everesting, where a person climbs the height of Everest (8848m) in small chunks on their house stairs or up a local hill, sometimes by bike and sometimes by foot. The idea came quickly: Everest the Knox Mountain Apex trail and use the feat as a campaign to raise much needed funds for Elevation Outdoors.

Elevation Outdoors’ mission is to enhance the lives of underprivileged youth via participation in specially designed outdoor sports programs; and to help youth develop lasting passion for these sports while drawing parallels to life through the experience and learning life skills along the way.

Mike Greer, Executive Director of Elevation Outdoors says, “Elevation Outdoors is thrilled to see one of our passionate volunteers taking steps to help raise awareness about the mental health impacts that Covid-19 has had on many members of our community. Now more than ever it is very important for everyone in our community to be able to find a way to get outside and connect with the natural world. The funds raised will help us provide full scholarships for deserving youth to help connect them with a new passion for the outdoors as well as mentorship and life skill development in an effort to build a better future for them and our community."

My summit of Everest (on Knox Mountain) will take place on October 5th. I suspect that it will
take about 34 laps of the Apex trail and will take about 20 hours.

Please help me in raising funds for this much needed cause to help underprivileged youth develop a passion for outdoor sports.

Please also come out to hike alongside, bring me nutrition, or cheer me on as my legs turn into concrete blocks. I will be starting at around 4am and hope to wrap up by midnight!

I can be reached at [phone redacted] if you would like to help. Media exposure to help raise these much needed funds is also appreciated!
