Everett's NICU visit

Hi! We’re Sarah and Maddy, friends of Chloe, Thomas, and Everett Gerard. They need your help!

On June 19, 2022, Everett Gerard was born! Due to a number of scary circumstances during labor and birth, Everett was born via an emergency C-section that resulted in an HIE diagnosis (Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy.) Everett then spent several weeks in the NICU receiving life-saving treatments while Chloe also healed from this traumatic birth. While no two babies with HIE will be affected the same, so many people helped while in the NICU to ensure Everett would survive and have a good quality of life.

While we are all grateful that Everett and Chloe are home now and doing well, those weeks in the NICU have resulted in over $100,000 in medical bills. The copays alone for Everett’s continuing treatments out of the hospital are sometimes more than a paycheck. They need our help catching up while they settle into not only being new parents, but parents of a child with a challenging brain injury who needs special care.

Everett’s diagnosis is a ~2.5/1000 permanent brain injury that will affect him and his family for the rest of his life. There is no cure for this type of brain injury, and the true extent of the damage won’t be clear until he develops further. This means years of monitoring and treatments for Everett, and a huge financial burden for Chloe and Thomas.

Both Chloe and Thomas are incredible parents, and Everett couldn’t be more loved than he is as their son. Chloe and Everett were both minutes away from death, and we are all so grateful they are still here. However, the trauma from this experience alone, without the added financial burden, is difficult enough to navigate through.
