Everything is gone including sweet Gracie

Donation protected

Early this morning we received a phone call from the chip company. We always remain secondary on our microchips just in case of an emergency where the new owner isn’t reachable. This was one of those calls, We were connected with the person who had found one of our dogs. Unfortunately, Gracie did not make it.

Many dogs being found the night after the Fourth of July, some were luckier than others.

The hardest part was making the call to tell her owner, Vikki, that we found Gracie. I left a message.

I contacted Cat Cottle with Animal control to ask her if she could help with picking up Gracie remains, I did not want Vikki to have to deal with finding her sweet dog. Vikki was an older lady and I had adopted Gracie to her about 6 years ago. I knew how much Gracie was loved with Vikki.

I told Cat I was unable to connect with Vikki. I kept getting her voicemail. I wanted to give her closure. Cat told me there were many fires in the city of Antioch last night and she believed Vikki’s home was one that caught on fire after illegal fireworks were set off. Vikki is in her 80’s. This is her home, her life….so was Gracie. Life as she new it is gone.

Cat provided me another contact number for Vikki. I left a message. A few minutes later Vikki called me back to tell me Gracie got out when house caught on fire. I gave her the update about Gracie. Vikki wept and I wept with her.

In the time of crisis it is hard to think about taking the next step, just comprehending what has happened from moment to moment is all the mind can handle.

As someone who knows and understands loss, grief, devastation sometimes others have to step up and help with taking the motion of moving forward.

Vikki does not know what she needs but we would like to provide her some resources so that she can get back on her feet as best as she can.

We ask that you give to a go fund me to support a member of our community. Please find it in your heart to give to the person who just lost everything including her loyal companion. We will make sure that Gracie comes home to Vikki properly. ❤️
