Evesham PD - No Shave November - 2020

Tax deductible
ETPD - Growing Beards for Cancer Awareness
The Evesham Police Department will participate in the No Shave November campaign aimed at bringing awareness to cancer. Members of the Police Department will, if they voluntarily choose to participate, make a donation to cancer research. The participating members will begin a month-long journey to forgo shaving to evoke conversation and raise cancer awareness. We are going to grow hair to grow cancer awareness to support cancer prevention, research and education. “This terrible disease has an impact on every one of us, whether it is our family, friends or even our own personal fight. We must continue to work together and fight this disease, find a cure and continue to save lives.” Chief Christopher Chew.

The Evesham Police Department aims to bring awareness to all types of cancer, which include both prostate and testicular cancer. About 1 in 9 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime and an estimated 9,560 men in the United States will be diagnosed with testicular cancer, according to Cancer.net. In honor of helping to raise awareness about serious cancers, a movement known as “Movember” and No-Shave in November, is recognized to encourage friends and family to get screened for prostate and testicular cancer– two cancers that can be treated with early detection.

Early detection of prostate and testicular cancer is critical to survival rates. The five-year survival rate for prostate cancer, when caught in the early stages, is 100%. The five-year survival rate of testicular cancer, when caught in the early stages, is 99%. Both prostate and testicular cancer not caught in the early stages has limited treatment options, early diagnoses is critical to the survive of these cancers. Prostate cancer can be detected early by getting a simple PSA blood test. Testicular cancer can be detected early by getting educated on self-screening exams.

We ask the public to join us in this campaign. We are seeking our community members to spark conversations with your family members and friends about cancer awareness. Donations to help support cancer research can be made by visiting:
