EVFS repairs and operating costs

Research at the El Verde Field Station has been temporarily halted by the effects Hurricanes Irma and Maria. While we wait for assistance from Puerto Rican and Federal sources, scientists on the ground in Puerto Rico are supporting the needs of the field station for fuel, materials, repairs, rental vehicles, and replacement equipment from their private funds. Through their efforts, research on the effects of the hurricanes will resume shortly. However, in order to keep the station open, we need to provide support for operating costs. We have set an initial goal of $10,000 to reimburse costs already covered by individuals and to provide a small cushion for emergency purchases during the next few weeks. These funds are urgently needed to assure the continuity of the work being done at EVFS.
My name is Bob Waide, and I am a currently located at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. I previously directed the Long Term Ecological Research project based at EVFS and the University of Puerto Rico. I have been asked by Jess Zimmerman, the currect director, to create this GoFundMe account because access to internet and banks is very limited in Puerto Rico. I will transfer funds to Jess using PayPal or wire transfers as the situation permits.
