Eviction Resistance Legal Challenge
Donation protected
Greetings, my name is Anthony Braithwaite. I am a single Father and London, bus driver.
Me and my two young children were to be evicted from my temporary accommodation by Lewisham Council. However, through the Community, Lewisham Trades Union Council, Campaign for Truth and Justice and, Unite The Union, London Renters Union support, we were able to Resist this Eviction.
For 4️⃣ years, Anthony has tried to get housing, work, raise my children alone, and support my children with ADHD and Anxiety. Lewisham Council has told me I had made myself ‘intentionally homeless. But anyone who’s actually been homeless knows it’s not something anybody wants to be.
He’s done everything he can alone, queueing at the homelessness unit, bidding and pleading his case.
Lewisham Council is not budging knowing they have failed my children and I; through Housing (s.63 of the Family Law Act 1996.), they have failed my Children (Children Act 1989 & 2004) and have failed me knowing they had breached Domestic Abuse policy which I had endured (under section 91(14) of the Children Act 1989).
Access to stable, social rented, and decent housing is a human right.
We need to let Lewisham know their failure has caused harm both mentally and physically to https://youtu.be/aGW7tnFYjS4https://youtu.be/aGW7tnFYjS4 my children and me; therefore, we need to raise money to bring this to Court to give Anthony a legal voice and see if Lewisham Council decision was the correct one.
We need to show that we will not tolerate members of our community being treated like this Imagine working on the frontline of the pandemic only to be slapped in the face like this!
