Help Educate Vanuatu's Children

THE STORY
Over numerous trips to Vanuatu, Sunshine Coast friends Paul Clout and Greg Bartlett were confronted with the seemingly ongoing cycle of poverty and sense of hopelessness within the villages of Port Vila.

Realizing that education could be the key to seeing the communities transformed, Evidence Vanuatu and the mission to build schools was formed.

Educating the future generations would provide career opportunities and empower the students to provide for the community through breaking the cycle of poverty.

Sending children to school in Vanuatu is expensive and many parents in the villages could not afford to do so. And so Evidence partnered with the Vanuatu government and education department, with the agreement that we will build to classrooms and school facilities and the government will supply teachers and resources.

In this way, the school can keep fees at a minimum, which enables many of the families with low incomes to be able to send their kids to school.

Evidence founded Seaside Community School in 2006 and has been doing annual trips to build classrooms from kindergarten to grade 9. Various other facilities have also been built, such as a library, science laboratory, canteen, staff room, and kitchen to teach the students how to cook.

A decade on and the school is one of the fastest growing in Vanuatu, with an expected  425 students being enrolled in 2017. Where previously an education was not even possible, students are now given a quality education and even winning nationally recognised awards! Our mission is to continue providing much need facilities for the students to complete their high school education.

THE GOAL
Our next goal is to continue constructing the high school and build the Grade 10 classroom, and we need YOUR help to achieve this!

Building a single classroom costs approximately $30,000 AUD and this encompasses construction from the slab to the final classroom fit out. All labour and trip expenses is generously volunteered by our teams.
