Help for Evie

Many of you know my brother Chris and his fiancé, Ali. Their beagle mix Evie urgently needs surgery, and Chis and Ali need our help!

Evie was rescued by Chris from 11th Hour Rescue in the spring of 2017. It was an instant love and connection between the two of them. On Evie’s car ride home she hopped into Chris’s car without hesitation and positioned herself on the console between the two front seats as a self proclaimed co-pilot. Evie is one of the sweetest dogs, content to do nothing but cuddle all day long. Winter of 2017 added Ali, Chris’s fiancé, to the family and Evie welcomed her with open paws. Evie easily accepted Ali as her adoptive mother. Spring of 2018 brought Evie a little sister, Storm, who is another rescue from St Hubert,s. Since Storm’s arrival, Evie has gained more confidence and independence, and is being a great big sister. Evie entertains the endless energy of Storm, even if she really just wants to sleep, and lets Storm cuddle with her in her crate. Evie is always concerned with where Storm is when their walks go in different directions and will do everything she can to get back towards her. The two get silly together and like to chase or play with each other. When Chris and Ali had have to board the girls overnight, Evie is always leading the way and giving support for a hesitant Storm to follow her.

Chris and Ali got engaged at the end of October and were so happy that they were going to make their little family official in fall of 2019. Things were perfect! Then, out of the blue, Evie began yelping randomly and walking very slowly. She seemed lethargic and not herself. After 24 hours of this behavior, Chris and Ali brought Evie to the animal hospital in Fairfield. The initial exam diagnosed her with a soft tissue injury in her neck or back. She was treated and sent home for rest with medication. A few days later, Evie took a negative turn. She was panting heavily, couldn’t keep her balance and was not able to support herself to stand. Her front paws turned on their tops, as if she couldn’t figure out how to stand correctly anymore. Chris and Ali rushed Evie back to the hospital where she was admitted overnight. A neurologist exam, x-ray and MRI revealed a herniated disc (between C2 and C3) with 50-60% compression.

Evie will need surgery if she wants to fully recover. Chris and Ali love their baby and will do anything to help her get better. They want to see their friendly, happy puppy again. The surgery that Evie needs is one of the most expensive injury surgeries for a dog. Between the hospital visits, treatment, x-ray, MRI, and surgery, her costs will total $13,000. Chris and Ali are hard workers - respectively, an architect and manager/ teacher at an early childhood development center - but the costs of Evie’s medical bills are beyond their grasp. They will be giving up their honeymoon next year to help with the costs and cutting out things everywhere they can. It won’t be enough though and so they are reaching out to animal lovers everywhere for help.

Chris and Ali are two of the most caring and compassionate people I know. They are currently saving for their wedding next fall, but they will do anything to help out their little Evie. They would never hesitate to help out friends or family, and now they need our help! Any little bit helps! Please feel free to share this campaign with any animal lovers you know. Thank you so much for your help.
