Jim Good's Dire Situation

Donation protected
Jim Good has poured his heart and soul into creating Goodsir Nature Park for Prince George community members and visitors to enjoy. He has also spent the majority of his own money on this park over the past four decades and is now in financial despair and his quality of living has reached an awful level by not being able to afford basic necessities.  Jim is now living in such difficult poverty stricken circumstances and can no longer perform daily park maintenance tasks due to having a quadruple heart bypass surgery.  This has significantly impaired his physical and emotional health, adversely affecting his lifestyle.   The goal is to raise $10,000 for Jim Good. Every penny raised will help offset Jim's financial stress that is gravely affecting his health. John Brink, a local businessman and philanthropist, has agreed to personally match the first $5,000 in donations for Jim.  Jim is living like a third world citizen in beyond terrible conditions. He hasn't told anyone about this until recently because he didn't want it to affect his park's 30th Anniversary Celebrations. Jim Good has single-handedly built and provided the city of Prince George with an increase in tourism, recreational leisure, education and a beautiful sanctuary for nature lovers over the years.    __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Who we are.......   We are Claire & Kieron Warner and we visited Goodsir Nature Park recently and were so moved by the breathtaking beauty at the park, that we phoned the owner and creator Jim Good and offered our volunteer services and/or a donation to him. We learned that Jim has recently suffered 2 major heart attacks then had to undergo major heart surgery as a result in St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, BC. Jim has dedicated his life's work and his modest salary as a janitor to building this spectacular park to the detriment of his own well being.  His home requires many improvements to make it safe to live in as Jim has put every penny he has earned into building this park for the community of Prince George, B.C.   Jim's furnace is cracked and this alone is a major fire hazard in his rural home.  He does not have a safe fire burning unit and he takes the risk every time he makes a fire to keep himself warm.   This is not only causing Jim to burn excessive amounts of wood, but his home is in serious jeopardy of burning down without major repairs to his central heating system. Jim's chimney is also now so severely decayed, he has tried to rescue it by placing corrugated roofing inside it.  This is again so dangerous given the  extreme risks to his property of a chimney fire.  Furthermore, the fumes are a major hazard to his respiratory health and safety in the home.   Jim's old propane tank hasn't been used for 20 years so requires servicing and filling in order that Jim can survive comfortably over the next few winters without burning excessive amounts of wood.  Jim physically does not have the strength to chop or even carry the wood anymore, so requires an electric log splitter to aid him in preparing firewood in his yard.  Jim's home also requires his 30 year old water tank to be assessed and if necessary, fixed or replaced given he has been unable to afford to use salt in his system and he requires access to hot water which he has not had now for 20 years.  This will ensure that Jim can bathe and meet his healthcare needs and live a normal life in his retirement at Goodsir Nature Park.  Finally, Jim needs to have access to a working washing machine due to his lack of mobility and his washer has been broken for nearly 20 years now so needs to be replaced.  We believe Jim deserves an EXTREME home makeover and all of our support as a small gesture of our gratitude.   We are concerned that Jim needs these repairs urgently given that all of the work needs to be completed before our winter which begins in October 2019.       We would like to thank all of the volunteers at Goodsir Nature Park for helping us facilitate this campaign on Jim's behalf including Scott McWalter, John Brink and so many others. This team has spent so much of their own time and energy raising funds, providing supplies and advocating for Jim and Goodsir Nature Park.  Finally, we would like to thank Jonathon Valoroso and his team at Shaw Spotlight for producing his documentary which I (Claire) appeared in and highlights the 30 years work of Jim founder and owner of Goodsir Nature Park.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vycnRpSDP0 Prince George and its citizens are very unique and special because as northerners, we have a reputation for having hearts of gold and bending over backwards for each other.    So we are setting up a GoFundMe page in order to ask for the public's help to raise $10,000 in order that I can arrange for the work to be undertaken by central heating and plumbing contractors on Jim's behalf. Financial donations can be made here  at the GoFundMe page which will help Jim Good keep his life's work, Goodsir Nature Park, the Botanical Gardens and Museum and his spectacular Musical Archive and Studio alive, free and breathtaking.  Thank you everyone for ensuring we are all a part of this magnificent true north strong and free community!
