This is Madelyn. A 9 year old beautiful, energetic, joyful, bright little girl. At the end of September Madelyn was playing soccer, going to school and having fun with family and friends. Her symptoms came on suddenly, and by October Maddy was admitted to the hospital and has begun her battle.
On the last day of September, we received this text from Maddy's Mom and Dad:
We know everyone has been patiently waiting for word from us in regards to Madelyn's diagnosis. We learned late today that Madelyn has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (A L L; T- Cell). She has presented quite uncommonly, in that it was not until today that "blast" cells started to show up in her bloodwork......which is why they were so surprised when they found it in her bone marrow (blood). Aside from slightly elevated white blood cells, her bloodwork essentially presented as someone consistent with Lymphoma. The doctor has stated several times It is so rapid moving right now, if we came in even a week from now she would have been very very sick. When all is said and done it is basically like we were ahead of the disease. We have essentially been diagnosed as early as humanly possible and we consider that a blessing. This is a treatable disease and if our little girl tackles this like she tackles life......she will want to be the best at it and won't really take any other option. Her fierceness will absolutely be an asset in this fight!! We are looking at a 3 year treatment plan, with the first 6-8 months being the most aggressive and toughest. We are tentatively looking at 2 more weeks here as a minimum and a full month at the longest for this first "induction" phase (given all goes as planned). As soon as she is strong enough to come home we will and then continue treatment on a mostly outpatient basis. Her first chemo treatment is being given tonight and she undergoes a spinal tap tomorrow to make sure it isn't hiding anywhere in the spinal fluid. She has been through the ringer (she has a fever and is starting not to feel great). She is nothing short of AMAZING because even in the midst of everything she is going through (so many scary tests, medicine, vitals, bloodwork, tears and fears) she still is smiling, laughing, and being the "sunny side of the street" kid we know and Love. Thank you sincerely from the bottom of our hearts in all you have done for all of us. We have seen generosity at its best and most genuine, and we could not have gotten this far without it. We love you all!!!!!!- Kevin and Vicki
We, Madelyn's family, friends, and community, are asking for any donations to assist her and her parents in their time of need. Maddy is a fierce competitor, a Braveheart, and will overcome!!
Thank you for your prayers, kindness and generosity.
God Bless,
