Amy's Cancer Recovery

On July 17, 2014, at 42, Amy went in for a routine mammogram. She was called back the following week for more screening...there was something the radiologist was questioning. After two biopsys and an MRI, she learned on August 26th, that given the extent of Ductile Carcinoma In Situ throughout her left breast she will need to have a mastectomy; reconstruction will begin at the same time. It was a tremendous blow, but she is grateful that her prognosis is good - thanks to routine screening it was caught in the early stages. Our mother is a breast cancer survivor, after having a double mastectomy at age 59, and is free and clear 15 years later. All of us hope the same for Amy.

In searching for her purpose, Amy realized her calling in life was to help others as a Life-Work-Transition Coach. She began several training courses this year and was hoping to enroll in a certification program beginning in October to launch her new career. Unfortunately, fate had other plans for her. Not only was breast cancer to set her back, her husband and partner came to the culmination of his own life transition, and she is now in the process of a divorce. All of this within a few months has made it a challenging year for Amy, to say the least.

Alone, but not without love and support, yet unemployed and unable to obtain work at this time, Amy is facing the financial hardships of medical bills; travel and temporary housing costs to bring family members to Portland, Oregon to help in her recovery process; and, looking to the future when she is healthy enough to step back on the path of building a successful coaching practice so that she can fully support herself on her own.
