Ewert Family Mission to Nicaragua
Donation protected
Family and Friends,
Over the past few years, Casey, myself, and our 3 kids Gwyn (13), Toby (9), and Ava (8) have been helping with a local ministry in a low-income area of Lakeland, where we help lead soccer clinics with the kids enrolled in the program. The organizer of these clinics was invited last year to start a similar soccer camp in Nicaragua, in partnership with the Presbyterian missionaries in the area. He and his family went last summer and had over 400 kids sign up and participate in a two-week soccer camp. This was a great opportunity for the local missionaries to connect with children and their families.
This summer, we are excited to participate in this two-week project, which we hope will be even bigger. By the end of last year’s camp there were kids coming not just from the closest village, but also from neighboring ones.
We will be building on this momentum and have several local churches that will partner with us during this year’s camp which will be from June 27th through July 10th. Each day the camp will include fun games and soccer instruction, as well as devotions. This camp provides a wonderful opportunity for local church pastors to connect with these kids. We are working with the Lakeland soccer club to collect new and used cleats, jerseys, balls, and shin guards to bring with us to hand out to the kids. The kids will get to come to the camp for free, and then attend a special service at any of the partner churches. After the pastor shares the gospel the kids will get a free pair of cleats or a jersey. The kids get some fun new soccer gear, the local missionaries have an opportunity to connect with the community, and the partner churches will have a great chance to share the gospel with these kids and their families. Everyone wins!
We are excited about this opportunity for several reasons. Primarily, we see this as a fantastic way to share the gospel with these kids and their families. This trip is an extension of a ministry we are already participating in locally, so we know that we are uniquely experienced and passionate about ministering to a community through sports. Secondly, we want to support this outreach because of the impact that these missionaries are having in Nicaragua. We are connecting these families with a local church so that they can learn and grow long after we are gone. Lastly, we want to kindle a passion in our own children for missions work and for serving others, and what better way to do that than to take them with us and let them be God’s hands and feet with us?
So here is where you all come in. We are asking for you to partner with us on this trip. We need to raise $6000 to cover flights, food, and lodging for our family for two weeks. We are busy brainstorming and preparing many local fundraisers, but we were hoping that you might consider helping as well.
Our first big hurdle is to purchase the airline tickets, which is about half the cost of the trip. We want to purchase these by the end of February in order to prevent ticket prices from rising and to make sure our whole group gets on the same flight. Please consider joining us in this exciting opportunity as the Ewert family learns to live out Mark 16:15 … "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”
We sincerely appreciate your support in our adventure to bring some Jesus to these kids and their families.
With gratitude,
Grant, Casey, Gwyn, Toby, and Ava Ewert
