Ex Para Shannon rides for SSAFA Devon
I am a former member of the parachute regiment. Six years ago I suffered a stroke which was related to my complex PTSD, which I have struggled with since leaving the armed services ten years ago.
I recently took delivery of an adapted, recumbent trike organised by Val Hoar, a caseworker with SSAFA Devon.
It has given me the ability to manage my mental health with fitness. This has been life-changing for me while aiding my stroke recovery. I have been keen to challenge myself and when I heard of a group of Royal Naval submariner personnel, including former Royal Marines and Paras planning a bike ride from Exeter to Land’s End I was keen to get involved.
I’m not going to let the fact that I have to propel and steer myself predominately with my right side hold me back.
I am aware this will be a difficult challenge for me given the terrain and distance, especially since we aim to complete the challenge in just three days starting on St George’s day, the 23rd April.
But with the help of my fellow servicemen, (Kieron, Jamie, Mark and Iain), I know I can make it.
All the team are keen to support SSAFA the Armed Forces charity in their invaluable work, improving the lives of service, personnel, veterans and their families.
SSAFA are in need of both funds and helpers.
Please consider a donation using my page to help them.
For my part, I vow to complete this challenge and continue to raise funds whenever I can for this cause.
If you feel able to assist in a practical way please phone Exeter 01392 254611
Thank you for reading my message.
