Expand the work beyond the book

Hi -
My name is Erin Malone, and I have spent the last two years researching and writing a book about the women defining the discipline of Interaction Design. These women have been creating work as Interaction Designers (and user researchers, interface designers, information architects, ethnographers and others in this hybrid brew) and paving the way for the next generation.
While MIT Press will publish the book, I have had to hire my own developmental editor. A grant I applied for to cover editing didn't come through. Because of extenuating life circumstances (my father's death), I haven't consulted as much this year as in years past, so my funds are low. Grief is a bitch.
There are more than two dozen women who I have researched and written about whose stories had to be cut from the final manuscript due to word count restrictions and narrative flow that I'd like to share with the world.
I am looking to raise funds to:
- Pay for the developmental editor for the book manuscript
- Pay for the editor to edit all the profiles that had been cut, before sharing them in my upcoming newsletter and on the website
- Hire one to two student interns for the summer to redesign and revamp the website to better promote all the women I researched, featuring a timeline, the stories, the book, and other materials I publish, including the Connections Poster and a mini timeline book.
This work is important to the history of our field. The stories of our foremothers, women inventors and innovators needs to be told.
Thank you for your support
